Job Description

Trainees in our Merchandiser in Training program receive a broad and hands-on experience in all aspects of our business, including buying and selling of commodities, daily analysis of markets, and price developments; along with a strong understanding of Lansing’s internal business model. This is made possible by a proven, in-depth curriculum that allows trainees to complete two 6-month rotations within our North America based trading locations.

In the MIT Program, you would expect all of the following experiences:

  • An introduction to our grains, feed ingredients and energy businesses including:
    • Trading terminology
    • Trading and logistic dynamics
    • Relationship building with customers
    • Tools, concepts, and systems of trading
  • Understanding of internal divisions such as Credit, Accounting, and Business Development
  • On-going formal soft skill development and on the job training
  • Rotation through our US trading locations
  • Mentoring provided by a location manager
  • A Junior Merchandiser position within one of our divisions upon successful completion of the MIT Program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 4 year degree in Ag. Business, Ag. Finance/Econ, Business Administration, Economics or other related major
  • Up to 2 years of working experience or relative internships
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility to relocate
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of a second language is a plus
  • Demonstrated natural leadership ability
  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Global Mindset; Entrepreneurial attitude
